Renaming and Renumbering of Streets

Under Section 18 the Towns Improvement Act the local authority can alter the name and numbers of any street without consent of the ratepayers. However, renumbering and renaming is not undertaken lightly because of the number of contacts who need to be notified on a personal as well as official basis.

If the residents of a street wish for the name to be changed for whatever reason they can petition the Council who will judge the case on its merits –a decision will be made by the appropriate committee after the usual consultation process has taken place.
