Fly posting relates to the unauthorised placing of posters, advertisements and/or notices to street furniture (e.g. lampposts, railings etc) and buildings without the consent of the owner and contrary to law.
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act gives the Council powers to take action against the business or individual who benefits from the fly posting; in addition, on-the-spot fines of £80 can be issued to anyone caught fly posting within the district.
Fly Posting is monitored via the Best Value Performance Indicator programme, under which regular inspections record the instances of fly posting and make contact with those responsible in order to drive down the number of fly posting incidents in the area.
