When a new road is built the responsibility for erection and replacement of street nameplates lies with the developer until the road has been adopted by Wiltshire County Council. The responsibility for the maintenance and renewal of nameplates then transfers to the District Council.

Street Nameplate Specification

Street nameplates should be made of die pressed aluminium 11SWG

Lettering on nameplates should be 90mm Kindersley, black on white

Nameplates are to be fitted into a galvanised angle iron frame with legs

Nameplates should be sited at a 40° splay to the junction

The top of the sign should be 915 mm above ground level

The legs should be set in a 450mm cube of concrete

Flexibility and common sense should be applied to the above criteria and the District Council’s approval sought for the proposed location. The District Council will readily guide developers to suitable nameplate manufacturers.
