Westbury White Horse & Bratton Camp

Westbury White Horse is perhaps one of the most famous landmarks in West Wiltshire. A perfect picnic spot, it has breathtaking views of the Wiltshire and Somerset countryside. The present White Horse was originally cut in 1778, however, legend suggests that it rests on the site of an even older horse that commemorated the defeat of the Danes by King Alfred at Ethandun in AD878. Bratton Camp is what remains of massive fortifications of a 2,000 year old Iron Age Hill fort. Its steep ditches and banks surround an even older Neolithic barrow or burial mound
