The Lake Pleasure Grounds off Weymouth Street has:
The banks along the stream running through the site have been left wild as a habitat for the water vole, and long grass on the sloping sides is home to a number of insects.
The Smallbrook Meadows Local Nature Reserve leads off of the Lake Pleasure Grounds. The reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and consists of a series of old water meadows and a small area of woodland lying alongside the River Were. The reserve is close to the town centre and is owned by West Wiltshire District Council. The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust manage it in order to maintain the abundant and varied wildlife for the enjoyment of local people. Come here to see wildflowers, in abundance, from spring to summer, dragonflies, butterflies - and just to relax with nature.
Leaflets are available about the reserve. For more information about the reserve and how you can help look after it please phone Clive Thomas on 01985 216586.
