The Data Protection Act
Under the Data Protection Act, the Council has a legal duty to protect any information collected from you. Information can be held in manual files or on computer and it is used to deliver council services. Only the minimum appropriate personal data is requested and held, and it is only kept as long as required for the purpose. We will not pass personal information to other companies or individuals unless we are required to so by law.
You can request information on data held. There is a £10 fee payable for data access requests. If you would like to pay electronically please telephone us with your credit card details - please speak to Legal Services on 01225 776655 ext 155.

We are required by The Data Protection Act 1998 to notify the Information Commissioner of what we are doing with personal data. The Council has registered the data we process with the Information Commissioner. The Data Protection register shows what an organisation or individual is registered to do. It will not state whether or not an organisation holds personal information on a particular person.

You can obtain paper copies of individual register entries from the Office of the Information Commissioner free of charge. A small fee is payable for certified copies.
