The Homelessness Act 2002 required all local authorities to produce a 5 year Homelessness Strategy to address the needs and gaps in the provision of help for homeless people. Following consultation with partners and stakeholders, the original Homelessness Strategy was written in 2003 and reviewed in 2004 to meet the needs of homeless people in West Wiltshire. We last updated the Strategy in April 2006 and were due to carry out a full review of the Homelessness Strategy for July 2008.
On 1 April 2009, the New Wiltshire Council will come into existence and the existing four Wiltshire Housing Authorities have agreed to prioritise the creation of one single Homelessness Strategy for Wiltshire. Therefore, in consultation with Communities and Local Government and the Government Office for the South West, we have decided in this, West Wiltshire’s final year, to update the existing Homelessness Strategy with some important and necessary revisions to our targets. The Homelessness Forum and Housing Liaision Group have contributed to the update of this Strategy and will continue to work in partnership to enable the targets to be met. These groups will play a major part in the creation and development of a County Wide Homelessness Strategy.
If you would like to comment on the updated Strategy, please contact Angie Rawlins, Housing Options and Homelessness Team Leader on 01225 776655 (arawlins@westwiltshire.gov.uk).
