It is the Council’s aim to actively support local community based groups who wish to organise clean-up projects in their area. A Streetscene Officer has been recruited from 1st December 2007 to develop the relationship with local communities & organisations and make it easier for those individuals & organisations to make a positive contribution to their local environment.
We are able to lend volunteers litter picking equipment and to supply black bin bags. We can also arrange to collect any litter that is suitably bagged up if arrangements are made in advance.
Please note that equipment is lent out on a first come first served basis, it is therefore advisable to book.
Just Bin It! - The campaign was such a success that the organisers Encams have decided to provide their continued support throughout the whole year, giving ample opportunity for local community based groups to arrange clean-ups on a regular basis.
We can also provide links with UK based organisations such as Encams formerly the Tidy Britain Group. Details of the ENCAMS website are shown below.
A community based Litter Warden Scheme has been introduced throughout the district. This scheme is aimed at individuals and groups who have a genuine interest in their local environment and are able to spare time on a regular basis to litter pick/monitor a selected section within their area for cleaning. We will support this with In-house training to each group, covering health & safety issues and risk awareness.
