black box kerbside recycling

Black boxes

The black box collections now operate in the majority of the district. To check when your next collection is due, please visit www.recycleforwiltshire.com (opens in new window). Further information and advice on black box recycling is also available on the Hills Waste website.

You can put the following items into the recycling boxes:

  • Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, junk mail, white printer paper and Yellow Pages
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • All steel and aluminium food and drinks cans
  • Empty aerosols- for example furniture polish, deodorants and air fresheners.
  • Textiles, clothes, pairs of shoes, belts, handbags and blankets (please put these items in a carrier bag with the handles tied and place inside the box)
  • Clean aluminium foil, such as yoghurt tops, takeaway food containers etc.

The black boxes are hand sorted by Hills Recycling at the kerbside, so are a specific size due to manual handling issues.

Each household in West Wiltshire is entitled to up to two black boxes, provided free of charge. To order new or additional black boxes, please contact Hills on 0845 603 2085. If your black box is full, then please bag items separately in carrier bags with the handles left untied and place them next to the black box for collection. Please note that the carrier bags will be placed back in the black box after collection.

The recycling boxes cannot be used for:

  • Plastic bottles
  • Cardboard
  • Flat or broken glass
  • Duvets or pillows
  • Shiny metallic plastic, such as crisp or peanut packets
  • Shredded paper.
