What can I recycle?

There are many facilities in West Wiltshire to recycle items that would otherwise go to landfill.

Green bins can accept compostable garden waste:

• Grass cuttings
• Leaves
• Prunings
• Hedge clippings
• Cut flowers
• Woodshavings and untreated sawdust

Black boxes can accept:

• Newspaper, magazines, catalogues, junk mail, white printer paper, Yellow Pages.
• Glass bottles and jars
• All food and drink cans
• Empty aerosol cans
• Textiles, clothes, pairs of shoes, belts, handbags, blankets
• Clean aluminium foil, e.g. take-away food containers

Mini recycling centres can one or more of the following items:

• Paper,
• Glass,
• Cans,
• Textiles,
• Cardboard,
• Plastic bottles.

Household Recycling Centres can accept larger items, including garden waste. All sites can accept:

• Paper
• Cardboard
• Glass bottles and jars
• Aluminium and steel cans
• Plastic bottles
• Rigid plastics such as plastic toys, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, plastic bags, plant pots
• Green garden waste
• Rubble and soil
• Metals and ‘white goods’ such as fridges and cookers
• Car batteries and motor oil
• Textiles
• Untreated timber

Most major charities now offer recycling for old mobile phones and printer cartridges. Please check with your preferred charity to see if this is a service that they offer. Most charities are able to claim back money for donated items.
