Hazardous waste

The Hills Waste landfill site at Purton near Swindon is the only one in the region licensed to handle hazardous waste. Its vast depth of impermeable blue Oxford clay makes it ideal for the disposal of solid wastes that have been contaminated by chemicals.

The following types of domestic hazardous waste can be taken to the Household Recycling Centres in West Wiltshire for disposal:

  • Asbestos roofing sheets - A small number of roofing sheets can be taken to the Warminster household recycling centre (strictly by appointment only). Please contact Hills Recycling on 01985 211531 to make a booking and to discuss requirements. Hills require 24 hours notice. You will be turned away if you have not made an appointment.
  • Computers
  • Engine oil
  • Car batteries
  • Mobile phones (recycled via Help the Aged or the Woodland Trust)
  • Gas bottles
  • Tyres
  • Paint
  • Household/garden chemicals
  • Fluorescent Tubes
  • Toner / Ink cartridges
