Street Naming and Numbering Charges

Street naming and numbering charges

The District Council has a statutory duty to provide street names and numbers to property developers, and this remains unchanged.

However, the Council will now be charging to provide this information to external agencies such as Royal Mail, Wessex Water and Ordnance Survey. On average, notifications of new address details need to be sent to at least 20 external organisations and seven internal departments.

The vast majority of charges will be payable by housing developers, although individual householders will also have to pay if they wish to rename their property.

The net fees, including VAT, for 2007-2008 will be as follows:

  • Development of up to five plots - £145
  • Development of over five plots (per phase) - £305
  • House names (new and changes) - £120
  • Street renaming (at residents’ request) - £305
  • House renumbering (e.g. to avoid 13) - £120
  • Confirmation of postal addresses for solicitors or conveyancers - £30

The Royal Mail Postcodes Division will not allocate Postcodes until they receive official notification of new properties from the District Council.

Please note that the above does not include the provision or erection of street nameplates.

A cheque for the correct sum covering the number of properties involved should be made payable to West Wiltshire District Council and sent to:
