How Planning Applications are considered

Once an application has been received there are a number of steps, which need to be followed before a decision is given.

Firstly, the Council has to inform a number of different bodies about the application it has received. The relevant Town or Parish Council is informed of the proposal, and other bodies, such as the Highway Authority or Water Authority, offer advice to the Council on applications in which they have a particular interest. Most of these consultations are required by law.

The Council also informs adjacent occupiers of proposals it thinks might be of interest. Indeed, some applications need advertising in the local paper and on site.
