What is Building Control?

Building Control is the process by which new building work, whether for a house, extension, office, factory or shop, is checked to make sure that it is built to exacting standards laid down by the Government in the Building Regulations. Checks are carried out by Building Control Surveyors as work progresses to ensure the health and safety of everyone living or working in or around buildings.

The Building Control Department is here to help you. If you are about to carry out any building works on your home then we are the people to contact. For extensions and other major works a formal application may be required. However, we are pleased to assist wherever possible. A preliminary visit by one of our surveyors may alert you to any potential problems before you commit to any work. These visits are particularly useful when dealing with loft conversions.

Together with the Building Regulation work, our surveyors also deal with dangerous structures, demolitions and work regarding fire precautions.
