The Council’s role

To work with the community and a range of organisations to encourage best practice in sustainable development within the community, through the support or development of a range of projects and initiatives across the district.

What we do

Sustainable development covers a wide range of inter-related issues and the Council is developing or supporting initiatives and projects across all services.

Energy

  • Housing Services/ Wiltshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre

The built environment

  • Planning - sustainability assessment of the local plan
  • Supplementary planning guidance has been developed as part of the development control application process for larger developments

Economic development and tourism

Food

  • The Wiltshire Food Links project is a partnership with range of organisations and farmers which aims to ensure greater availability of good quality local produce for local people within Wiltshire. This includes promoting local food, supporting local agriculture and producers and the local economy.

Countryside and landscapes

  • Community planning  - a sustainability checklist being developed as part of the community planning process
