Licensing - House to House Collections

A House-to-House Collection Permit is required mainly for door-to-door charitable collections, either made with collecting tins or by returning to collect a previously posted envelope. It will also cover collections of money made in pubs and, for example, collections of tinned food for redistribution or jumble for charity sales.

No person under the age of 16 years can act as a collector.

Collections for a particular charity may only take place once in each town in the West Wiltshire district each year.

In order to arrange a date for a House to House collection please email Licensing@westwiltshire.gov.uk with the following details:

  • which town(s) you would like to collect in,
  • which charity the collection will go to,
  • and which dates you would like to collect on.

A member of the Licensing team will then contact you with the dates and towns that are available in order to stop a 'double-booking' with another charity. An application form (see link below) will then need to be completed and returned to the licensing Section as soon as possible.

Applications must be received no later than 1 month before the date on which the collection will be made. No fee is payable for the permit.

The collector must make a return to the council once the collection has taken place.
