Licensing - Street Collections
Persons wishing to make a collection on behalf of a Charitable cause in a street or public place require a permit from the Council.
The licence is free of charge and is a legal requirement to ensure collectors are properly authorised and that money is collected in a secure way and the total proceeds collected are properly accounted for.
The five towns covered by West Wiltshire District Council include Trowbridge, Melksham, Bradford-on-Avon, Westbury and Warminster. Collections for any one charity will only be able to take place once in each town during each year.
In order to arrange a date for a Street Collection please email Licensing@westwiltshire.gov.uk with the following details:
- which town(s) you would like to collect in,
- which charity the collection will go to,
- and which dates you would like to collect on.
A member of the Licensing team will then contact you with the dates and towns that are available in order to stop a 'double-booking' with another charity.
An application form (see link below) will then need to be completed and returned to the licensing Section as soon as possible.
On receipt of a satisfactory application, the date will be allocated and a permit issued.
A Form of Statement should be returned to us within one month of a collection taking place.
