Planning Enforcement Policy

Planning enforcement

The Council has adopted a planning enforcement policy. The policy clearly identifies the two distinct types of planning enforcement:

  • Reactive enforcement - responding to complaints about alleged unauthorised development or uses; and
  • Compliance, the proactive enforcement of planning permissions, associated conditions and planning agreements.

The aim of the document is to give customers clear guidance on how complaints will be prioritised and the timescales set for dealing with different types of issue.

Making a complaint

Under the new policy, all planning enforcement complaints must be made in writing, and all complainants’ details will be kept confidential. Anonymous complaints will not be investigated.

If you suspect there has been a breach of planning control, please let us know. This could include works without permission, or works where permission has been granted but the planning conditions have not been kept.
