Payment to Councillors

On 5 November 2003 the District Council considered a report from an independent remuneration panel recommending changes to the allowances paid to its councillors. The Panel was made up of representatives from the business, education, health and local government sectors.

Allowance - Basic allowance (paid to all members) - £ 3,000

Allowance - Leader of Council - £ 7,500

Allowance - Deputy Leader - £ 5,625

Allowance - Portfolio Holder - £ 3,750

Allowance - Council Chairman - £ 3,500

Allowance - Chair of Planning Committee - £ 2,750

Allowance - Chairs of Overview Committees - £ 2,750

Allowance - Chair of Health Overview Committee - £ 2,750

Allowance - Chair of Standards Committee - £ 2,750

Allowance - Chair of Licensing Committee - £ 2,750

Allowance - Chairs of Area Seminars - £ 500

Allowance - Opposition Group Leader - £ 100 per member

Allowance - Outside bodies - £ 30 per meeting
