Cabinet Priorities

It is the role of Cabinet to set the priorities for the Council and provide the leadership required to enable the Council to focus on these priorities.

These priorities set the context for the consideration of the Council’s management arrangements. They are also an important element of the Council's Corporate Plan. They will help the Council to articulate its ambition and vision for the District. They are:

  • Customers First - a focus on the needs of customers to provide better, easy to access information and servicesDevelopment
  • Control - improvements to the service to benefit the customer and achieve higher standards
  • Recycling - increased to benefit the environment and ensure Government targets are achieved
  • Affordable Housing - new affordable housing to meet local needs across the district
  • Access to recreation - development and renewal of facilities and creation of opportunities for local people to participate
  • Market Town Regeneration - imrpoved local environments as well as better access to services, shops and facilities.

These priorities were agreed in 2004 by the previous administration. The current Cabinet was established following the last local elections in May 2007. On 7 November 2007, they agreed a modified critical task list in light of the LGR decision. The report can be viewed here.
