Clean neighbourhoods
New enforcement powers and on-the-spot fines are now being used across West Wiltshire to tackle a range of problems, including:
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act has increased local authority powers in a range of areas, and fixed penalty notices have been introduced as an alternative to prosecution.
Since 1 July, the Council has had enforcement staff patrolling the streets - these officers can hand out fixed penalty notices that carry on-the-spot fines. Failure to pay will lead to prosecution through the courts, where the maximum penalty ranges from £2,500 to £50,000.
In addition, the new Neighbourhood Policing Team in Trowbridge’s Adcroft ward can also take enforcement action.
