The Five Towns Initiative (5Ti) is a partnership between the District and the Five West Wiltshire Town Councils, Action Groups and Chambers of Commerce.
It began in 1997 when West Wiltshire District Council and the partners appointed URBED (Urban and Economic Development Group) and Donaldsons Chartered Surveyors to prepare a report on the health and regeneration potential of the five town centres in West Wiltshire. From this report, short, medium and longer term projects were identified by the partners and these formed the basis of a 3 year Action Plan for each town. For more information about the five towns, visit the West Wiltshire Facts Page.
The Five Towns Initiative aims to be a conduit for economic vitality and regeneration in the towns of Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury. The Initiative aims to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors through the creation of projects that will enhance social, cultural, economic and environmental aspects of the towns. The towns aim to work together in partnership to exchange ideas, experiences and best practice.
Over the past five years, the sponsoring bodies have contributed a total of £500,000 for a number of capital projects in and around the towns. These have included:
A further £260,000 regeneration fund is planned for 2003-04 and future planned projects include:
