Licensing Act 2003 - Fees

Licensing Act 2003

Fees and advertising

The old system involved paying separate fees for each type of licence. The new arrangements will be as follows:

  • A single premises licence fee structure based on rateable value including charges for:
  • Conversion from old type licences
  • Conversion from old type licences with a variation
  • Application
  • Variation

Most premises based licences conversions will cost between £100 and £755 depending on the rateable value and the type of application.

There will also be an annual fee to maintain the licence which for most premises will be between £70 and £350.

There is an exemption from the fees for village, church halls etc providing only regulated entertainment, and for schools who only put on regulated entertainment for themselves or for their own purposes. Please note that if there are sales of alcohol or the supply of late night hot food or drink then the normal fee applies.

It is worth mentioning that there is also a requirement for applicants to advertise the applications and variations in a local newspaper, but not a simple conversion from an existing ‘old type’ licence unless a variation to that licence is sought.

Personal Licences will cost £37 for a period of 10 years.

Temporary Event Notices (TENS) for small events or temporary variations of premises (where less than 500 people attend and up to 96 hours duration) notifications will cost £21 to make.

All of the fees are set by central government and are not under the control of this Council.
