This new piece of legislation draws together the licensing of entertainment and alcohol sales that was previously shared between District Councils and the Magistrates Courts system. In addition the sale of hot food and hot drink (both takeaway, eat in and mobile caterers) between 2300 hours and 0500 hours is licensable for the first time.
As well as the new Premises Licences and Club Premises Certificates there is also a separate Personal Licence which is required for the sale of alcohol. Small temporary events or changes to licences are provided for by Temporary Event Notices (TENS) that supersede the existing Occasional licences.
