Having difficulty paying your council tax?
We fully understand that sometimes it can be difficult to make your council tax payments - we would like to help before we have to issue a reminder or summons for non-payment, as this generally means that you also have additional costs to pay. You may be entitled to council tax benefit, or if you have arrears we may be able to agree a payment plan with you.
Check also if you are entitled to:
- discount in your bill due to circumstances - for example: single occupiers, unnoccupied properties, students
- exemption for certain types of property
Payments made easy
72% of West Wiltshire residents pay their council tax by direct debit. Paying by Direct Debit means that you don’t have to remember to pay each month. We will adjust the day of the month payment is needed to suit your individual finances. To set up a direct debit please contact us.

Internet Payments
You can pay your Council Tax online using the secure 'Bill Pay' website. To make an online payment, just click here to go to the BillPay site and follow the on-screen instructions. Please note that the BillPay site is an external website and will open in a new window.
Need to make an arrangement to pay off outstanding Council Tax?
Council Tax can be paid in ten instalments from April to January each year, but any amount outstanding from previous years could be added to the instalment plan if we can agree a payment plan with you.
If you have any difficulty paying the amount due, have arrears from previous years or owe money to another organisation as well, please contact us so that we can discuss a mutually acceptable repayment plan. We can adjust the day of the month you normally pay or agree weekly, fortnightly or another payment frequency that better matches when your income arrives. We may also be able to agree to spread the total due over a slightly longer period.
We accept that sometimes things can be complicated by unforeseen circumstances. The Council will have to take recovery action to secure the debt. But before we get to that stage it would be better if we could agree a mutually acceptable payment plan with you and work out whether there is any help available through Council Tax Benefit.
